The future of retirement. Lorna speaks with the leading expert on the lifestyles of retiring Baby Boomers. And how did a wrong turn in the Dominican Republic change one senior's life?
Lorna's Wrap
Our debate today raised the question: Should we do more or less to care for seniors? Could it be so bad to increase our dependence on each other across the generations? That's actually a Christian principle; dependence is what Christ modeled – a connectedness that is fiercely counter culture. Old or young, it's just not natural to make ourselves servants to the needs of others. A senior I love once said to me, "I'm just useless." I could honestly counter, actually, you're teaching me a lot just as you are. Teaching me how to live in pain, how to live as a helper, how to prepare for dying. Not everybody is going to go into aging with a bang, but we can all choose to say each stage has something to be shared.
