Believers under the fire of persecution. A man who was imprisoned and tortured for his faith and another who has traveled undercover to serve persecuted churches in Asia for decades. A place of worship is bombed. A pastor is shot for sharing the faith. Believers are tortured and executed for converting from one faith to another. This is religious persecution. And for millions around the world, it is a daily threat and a fact of life. Who is listening to the voices of believers under fire? Today we listen--and put religious persecution in Context.
I'm often asked who has been my favorite interview? It was Dr. Eli Veguilla - a spunky emergency room doctor and pastor who had been tortured and jailed in Cuba for telling teenagers about Jesus and other crimes. He showed me that when you walk the way of the Christian cross, walking into suffering does not only bring pain. It also brings the presence of Jesus. When there's a call to go the way of the Cross, there is also consolation. Free Christians such as myself have much to learn from putting our hearts in the suffering of the church, not just its victory. Be sure to look at our web links on how you can understand the plight of those in religious persecution – and how you can help, how you can learn.
