Asia Bibi has arrived on Canadian soil – her exact location in not being disclosed, but she has been reunited with her children.
Bibi was convicted of blasphemy in 2009 after being accused of insulting the Muslim Prophet, and other reports say after getting into an argument with a fellow farmworker. She was released from prison last October, however, when violent riots erupted across Pakistan by hardline Islamists, she was forced into hiding for her own safety.
Bibi has always maintained her innocence, and after spending over eight years in solitary confinement, she is now free.
But freedom comes at a high price.
Bibi’s safety is still at risk – even in Canada.
